Building Walls - Breaking Walls Jura 2020

Building Walls - Breaking Walls Grischun 2020

This year we had the honour to renovate 25 meters of the dry stone wall above Tschierv together with a team of professional dry stone masons. Due to the current situation of the corona virus it was unfortunately not possible to run the project "Building Walls - Breaking Walls Grischun" together with young adults from Northern Ireland, Israel and Palestine. Besides that we were really happy that the Biosfera Natural Park and the other partners* in the project welcomed and supported our office and the bricklayers. Together we spent an unforgettable week in the Val Müstair.

    Testimonial from a participant:

"I had one of the most amazing weeks of my life on the exchange and brought back so many memories and good feelings from my time in the Jura. The week was a 10/10, from the masterful craft of drywall construction to the deep discussion about peace, barriers and cultures. What I will take away from the exchange "Building Walls - Breaking Walls" is a better understanding of the divided cultures and why it is important to adopt your culture without stomping on another."

Cross the Gap - 2 cultures in one city

"Cross the Gap" invited young adults from German- and French-speaking Switzerland to visit places in the  Kosovo where people with mixed cultures live. Kosovo - like many states in the region after the war in ex-Yugoslavia, has a number of places with different populations (e.g. Serbian and Albanian populations). A famous example is the city of Mitrovica, where the river forms the border between the two communities and where the only crossing bridge has been closed for many years. During this study visit, we saw projects that support community coexistence. The project brought young adults from different cultures in Switzerland and from the Kosovo together to share their experiences and feelings about the cultural division in a country - to then come up with possible approaches to overcome them.

We've also learned  how to build mud bricks and walls and added some knowledge about agriculture and architecture to our ... Through this process we could all connect and learn more about each other." Making a Scene for Change - training course

A training course that explores social inclusion through the Theater of the Oppressed & the Forum Theater. They plan viable local and international projects that support young people's participation! Participants should learn more about the issues and challenges of marginalized young people and help them through this marginalization to tackle dramaturgical methods and the specific methodology of the "Theater of the oppressed". We believe that this methodology can address the essence of non-formal experience learning and works great with people of all abilities and levels. This is related to the strategy papers of the European Youth Forum, which recognize that non-formal learning contributes to the personal and social development of young people. In its study of the impact of non-formal education on the employability of young people, the European Youth Forum has tangible evidence of the value and role of youth organizations as providers of quality education and their contribution to the development of relevant skills in young people. 30 youth workers from the Czech Republic, Germany, Israel, Ireland, Jordan, Kosovo, Palestine, Portugal, Poland, Serbia and Switzerland took part.
